Richard I. Goldbaum, Ph.D., co-founder and principal of Transitions In Leadership, has over 35 years experience working in the nonprofit arena. Twenty-five of those years have been as Executive Director of two nonprofit organizations. He was the Executive Director of the St. Louis Association for Retarded Citizens, a provider of services to more than 2,500 people with developmental disabilities and their families.

Dr. Goldbaum was executive director of the Productive Living Board for St. Louis County Citizens with Developmental Disabilities (PLB). The PLB is an organization responsible for administering over $11.5 million annually in local tax funds. The PLB contracted with over 65 different nonprofit agencies providing an array of employment, family, and residential supports to over 4,000 county residents with developmental disabilities and their families.

In January 1997, Dr. Goldbaum left the PLB to pursue his consulting practice on a full-time basis. As President of GOLDBAUM & ASSOCIATES, Dr. Goldbaum has worked with numerous agencies as they work through the process of planning for their future and defining their niche in the community service system. He has conducted many workshops and seminars on topics such as change management, leadership enhancement, managed care, strategic planning, nonprofit board of directors' roles and responsibilities and team-building skills.

Dr. Goldbaum has a national reputation as a leader and organizer. He has been active at state, regional and national levels with the American Association on Mental Retardation (AAMR). Dr. Goldbaum is both a Fellow and Life Member in AAMR. He is a past president of the Administration Division of AAMR, the largest division (2,300 members) in the national organization. Dr. Goldbaum has presented papers at state, regional and national conferences and has published numerous articles.

Dr. Goldbaum is the author of a monthly column on nonprofit management in the American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR) newsletter, LINKS. Dr. Goldbaum presently serves on the Advisory Board to the University of Missouri-St. Louis Nonprofit Management & Leadership Program.

Dr. Goldbaum has an undergraduate degree in Special Education from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Geneseo, NY. He has a Masters of Social Work from the SUNY at Buffalo, School of Social Work. He also received his Doctorate in Special Education from St. Louis University. In June 1996, Dr. Goldbaum successfully completed the Executive Training Program at the National Center for Managed Health Care Administration of the Henry Block School of Business & Public Administration at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
